This is the best thing I've discovered all night. It's a new social music site with a Digg-like interface. Sure, you've seen about a million of these things, but so have I and guess what? THIS ONE IS GOOD. So far I've seen new Swayzak, Black Dice, and Crystal Castles, and I've only been logged in for 10 minutes.

I've been awake for quite a while now. Quite a while. I stumbled upon Squidoo (quite literally) and for some reason have spent the past three hours experimenting with traffic-building. What've you found to work? In this instance: I created a lense on Squidoo with the URL best.record.ever.com--it's about Radiohead, I included Digg, Amazon, and Technorati, and submitted it in several places. News that "oddball sibling-led outfit" (and definitely one of C4's picks) Sparks has scheduled 20 shows. At each show, the duo is scheduled to play, in chronological order, an entire album from it's discography. Which, coincidentally, is comprised of exactly 20 records. I better see some user-created live footage of "The Rhythm Thief," or heads will roll.

In a phone interview last week, Bridwell said the more-holistic-than-thou response didn’t surprise him. He was wary from the start about the Wal-Mart deal, which at first was for a Web site (which no longer seems to be functioning) and later called for a TV commercial for the store.

I was a kid in the early 90's so I probably wasn't buying any 45's, and the Napster phenomenon didn't start until I was at least 15, so I downloading anything, either. I used to watch MTV with my dad on Saturday mornings and always had young babysitters, so I was exposed to some weird shit at a young age. He used to buy me cassettes when we'd go shopping, and I think the first was The Raw & The Cooked from the Fine Young Cannibals. I was 6 years old and totally nuts for 'She Drives Me Crazy.' By the time I was 9 years old I had moved onto the cassette single of Weezer's 'Undone, The Sweater Song,' and S.W.V.'s Remixes album. In fact, I think I got them both on the same day.

To my credit: within less than a year I had moved on to Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day; by the time I was 12 my favorites were The Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks, Jilted John (whom you've never heard of), and Tool.

With all of the "Radiohead-destroyed-the-music-industry" hype that's circling the net right now, you've doubtlessly heard that NIN & Madonna have (in their own way) followed suit. So I'm not gonna talk about that. I also feel like there's a more important issue at hand--this weekend something horrible happened: my external hard drive crashed and took with it my 100+ GB music library. As a result, I've freeloaded from the internet's countless mp3 blogs. This is post #1 in a series of what we can call, "Desperate Picks" or, "My Hard Drive Ate My Music Collection And These Are The Highlights Of What Was Available To Highlight."

I've heard some of this, and I must say--it's certainly not bad. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Lavender Diamond, Giant Drag, and Mountain Party are all great artists and I am definitely interested in hearing them do their best Madonna. If you're interested and would like to hear more, I've taken the liberty of directly linking to some available downloads (courtesy of stereogum). But please consider the fact that all proceeds benefit Raising Malawi, so buy it (even if you only buy one album for the next 6 months). Orphans with AIDS need the ten/twelve/however many dollars you know you'll only spend on cigarettes anyway (after you download the album from someone on soulseek).

Question of the day: What was the release date of Portishead's last studio-recorded album? Anybody?....
IT WAS 1997, which, for the mathematically challenged, THAT WAS A FREAKING DECADE AGO. Well, good news, guys. The 10-year dry spell is soon to end. UK based music journal twistedear.com posts,

"Portishead's regular blogger, and founder, Geoff Barrow has posted an update on the third album progress: apparently it's on day from being finished, which given the time delay in the news being leaked, could well mean it's finished NOW!"

Subsidary question of the day: Aside from my own ignorance, was anyone else completely in the dark about this? Or was it common knowledge?
